Security
ECS can help a community comply with HIPAA regulations in an extremely efficient manner.
- What ECS Does for a community's HIPAA Compliance:
-
- 128K encryption of messaging
- User security: granting and blocking access to parts of records
- Automatic screen hiding and lockout with delay options
- Multi-facility database separation of specific community data
- Fingerprint recognition or access card for entry authenticity
- Fingerprint authenticity for Medication Administration
- Total audit trail of which staff looked at information in which clinical record
- Total audit date/time trail of staff documentation in a clinical record
- Password timeouts for agency staff
- Password changing on command of the user
- Password validity time limits
- Billing data sets
In reference to number two, there are multiple levels of security in the system. Communities have control as to who can do what and who can read what in the clinical records. A community may also choose to restrict clinical records from users based on the location of residents, such as Unit, Floor or Community. This means there can be literally thousands of levels of access determined and set by the community.
In reference to number six, some state pharmacy boards go beyond HIPAA measures when it comes to the passing of medications with an eMAR or notification to pharmacies. Communities should always check these regulations in their state before purchasing software. For example, Ohio requires there be two physical forms or authentication to use an eMAR or to transmit orders to the pharmacy electronically.
